Tony Corkett

Founder and Chair

Tony Corkett has led the way in transforming how technology is used in healthcare since 2000, initially leading on the development of PACS programmes in the NHS before establishing Bluestar UK Group as a leading healthcare consultancy and product group. Since then, Tony has built on his success, establishing himself as a leader in healthcare IT, building the CTOi Group which includes Cloud21, CTO Technologies and HealthNova.

As founder of CTOi, Tony oversees the general portfolio of its companies and leads the strategic direction. He has direct responsibility for HealthNova, the AI consultancy practice within the Group.

Tony has held senior roles in leading companies, including Head of Strategy and Partnerships with Google DeepMind, the AI arm of Google. At DeepMind Tony led on the strategic partnerships and commercial relationships. He worked globally with governments and major health institutions developing the future of AI for health. He has a keen interest in the development of AI within healthcare and is completing his doctorate at Warwick Business School.

Over the last 15 years, Tony has delivered solutions and major programmes of work across all aspects of healthcare technology in the UK and internationally. These have included working on AI projects with leading academic healthcare organisations globally, interim CIO at two of London’s leading hospitals, advising European and Middle East governments on strategy, and presenting at conferences worldwide.

As a qualified radiographer Tony experienced the issues that affect healthcare staff and patients on the front line. He has strived to support the adoption of new technologies and use of information intelligently in healthcare to make a difference to staff and patients. Tony really understands the value of a good IT solution, installed by the right people, engaging teams in its use, and ensuring that business as usual goes well once the specialists have left.

Andrew Hall

Managing Director

Andy has over 30 years’ IT experience of the most complex and challenging multi-national corporations, as well as small to medium businesses. He is a strategic planner and negotiator in both the public and private sectors and has a reputation for building high performing global teams.

Andy brings exceedingly strong leadership skills to CTOi Group. He works with the founder and his team to progress the company further, looking for smart companies wishing to invest in this forward thinking, innovative and game-changing business. Andy is particularly keen to develop the Cyber and Integration opportunities which has significant market potential.

Andy’s career followed a graduate placement at IBM where he started in finance before moving into sales. He soon took on sales and account manager roles before becoming the sales director at Newchurch in 2001, responsible for sales and marketing in the primary care sector. Since then Andrew has worked in a variety of roles in the healthcare industry, including Fujitsu and CSC covering acute, mental health and primary care.

In 2013 he joined the CSC’s UK leadership team, leading the growing digital applications business and the transformation of the UK business in 2015.

A keen golfer, Andrew spends most of his time off the course and outside work with his wife walking their two chocolate labradors.

Michael Beckett

Partner / Director

Michael has held numerous senior health informatics roles for acute trusts in the South East. This includes Interim CIO for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW); being an active member of the Digital Workstream Group for the Kent and Medway Sustainability and Transformation Programme; and Programme Director for the Kent Clinical Systems Collaborative, for the Southern Acute Programme (SAcP).

In his role as CIO, Michael has managed the go live of MTW’s recent PAS deployment and has developed the Trust’s five-year IT strategy. He has also gained board approval and central funding for the implementation of a single EPR system.

As Programme Director of SAcP Michael is responsible for ensuring the trusts adhere to the terms of NHS England’s MOU, engagement with both NHS Digital and NHS England, contract negotiations with the PAS supplier and collaboration between the organisations. Michael was also key in the producing the business case for gaining funding for the project.

In addition, Michael has provided consultancy services to a range of healthcare organisations, both within the public and private sector, as well as internationally. This has included development of IM&T strategies and major business cases, and programme, service and strategy reviews. Michael has also acted in assurance roles for major IT transformation projects.

Since he began his career in IT, Michael has undertaken roles from technical project manager, to IT and Programme Director and consultancy, before becoming MD of Cloud21.

Michael wants to push the boundaries of technology and see how current advancements can benefit patient care, predominantly supporting clinicians in the decisions they make and the data available to them.

And it’s not just implementation of technology designed for healthcare that interests Michael – it’s important to look at innovations across industries and consumer products to see how this could benefit patient care. There’s no limit as far as he is concerned and there are always technological boundaries for him to push to get the best result for any organisation.

Outside of the clinical IT playing field, Michael is a keen mini soccer league coach, following his two sons around the county as they play weekend football. He has coached Bearsted FC Under 10s for the last 3 years. A little known fact about Michael is that he played for England until he was 23 – at Korfball – a cross between basketball and netball which was developed in Holland.

James Cooper

Partner / Director

James has extensive knowledge of infrastructure, architecture, integration, EPR, Radiology and other critical hospital systems. His career in healthcare IT began at Surrey Health Informatics Service in 2008 where he worked as a desktop engineer, then network engineer, before moving into project management. James worked as a contractor, leading healthcare IT projects as a contractor before joining Cloud 21 in 2015.

James led the largest Lorenzo EPR deployment in the UK at Mid Essex Hospitals Services NHS Trust, which completed in December 2017. A team of 65 people took part in this deployment, 10 of which were Cloud 21 Associates delivering different workstreams within the programme.

Since then, James is interim CIO at Queen Victoria NHS Foundation Trust, sitting on the Digital Workstream Board for East Surrey and Sussex Sustainability and Transformation Programme (STP).

Alongside this, James was instrumental in producing a successful bid for STP funding for an integrated system at Mid South Essex NHS Trust and is now beginning work on the specification document and tender.

On a day to day basis, James manages the deliverables of up to 50 associates who work for Cloud21 on a wide array of programmes and deployments across the South East.

Outside of work, James spends most of his time with his young family, but some 10 years ago he was almost a contestant on The Apprentice. James saw himself get to the last 500 after numerous interviews and auditions. At this stage the 500 was whittled down to 50 and James was sent home. Something that in hindsight, he is pretty relieved about.

Ian Kirby

Business Development Manager

Ian brings a wealth of sales and account management expertise and experience to CTOi. During his time in account management he has worked on multiple million-pound contracts.

He has over 30 years’ experience in both the public and private health computing industry, having begun his career as an analyst programmer in 1985. He then moved into sales and management roles and was account manager for the first go-lives on the £896m NHS Programme in the South of England.

Amongst his top career achievements, Ian was account director deploying, servicing and selling IT products to the South East Coast SHA, leading a virtual team of 150 staff, and achieving £13.5m new business in the first year. When the Fujitsu NHS Contract ceased, he took an order for over £25m.

Add to this, as account director for NHS Strategic Tracing Service, Ian stabilised a failing service and added over £10m in value to the contract whilst ensuring strategic sales of Public Key Infrastructure and inclusion in the NHSIA Health Records Infrastructure project.

Brian Selman

NED

Brian brings a wealth of business acumen and expertise to the board at CTOi Group. He has been involved in healthcare in 10 different countries over 40 years, including acting as International Vice President and UK Managing Director for Sectra, a leading developer of radiology IT solutions, between 2008 and 2013. Since then he has developed a portfolio of Non-Executive Director roles. He is a former member of the NICE Medical Technology Advisory Committee and a current assessor for Innovate UK healthcare programmes.

Prior to returning to the UK, Brian lived in New Zealand and Australia. He moved there in 1977 to work for Anac Ltd, selling high-energy physics products, tripling the New Zealand and Australia sales for the company over 5 years. Following this he held various sales and general management roles for companies selling radiology and orthopaedic products.

During his time here he also established his own consulting company, Stratech Ltd, where he redeveloped community health operations for a large hospital, led benchmarking for a renal dialysis unit and developed a new marketing strategy for a nationwide pathology laboratory service.

Brian eventually moved onto Buckley Systems where he was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He developed new business strategy, implemented comprehensive change management and improved customer service and reduced delivery times for critical customers by 80%.

Throughout Brian’s career, although for the last 20 years very much focused on business management and operations, anything he has ever done has had a strong technical bias. Having studied A-Levels in Biology, Physics and Chemistry, he began his career as a technician at Hammersmith Hospital, St Thomas’ and Guys. He ensured medical equipment, as vital as dialysis machines, gamma cameras and radiation equipment, was in good working order and routinely maintained.

To balance out the technical, Brian is hugely creative, spending his spare time writing poetry, including producing an album of his poems set to music, wood carving and developing his photography skills. He’s also written two novels and is currently teaching himself to paint.

The Role:

  • Ensure all new tickets received are entered correctly
  • Ensure the correct process is followed throughout the lifetime of the ticket and correct status is used throughout
  • Responsible for the prioritising of tickets based on their severity and the customers’ SLAs
  • Ensure the customer has confirmed their satisfaction with the work supplied before marking the ticket as complete
  • Be the first point of contact for all incoming phone calls, logging new tickets and updating customers on the progress of ongoing tickets
  • Have sufficient 1st line support confidence to be able to answer questions raised on tickets and to ask relevant questions
  • Be able to resolve incidents first time on the phone with clients using quick reference guides and technical documents

  • Must be assertive and confident when dealing with people both internally and externally
  • Must have excellent customer-facing skills and enjoy telephone interaction
